Childhood posterior circulation arterial ischemic stroke – An unusual case with a possible COVID-19-related arteriopathy

چکیده
Viral infections are known to increase predilection stroke and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has proven these concerns true. We presenting the case of a 6-year-old previously normal male child diagnosed with posterior circulation who had all etiological workups negative except for COVID antibody. Imaging showed thrombi over V3 segment vertebral artery at C1–C2 level causing near complete occlusion, embolic infarct in bilateral inferior cerebellar artery, cerebral anterior left superior artery. The was managed methylprednisolone, anticoagulation, supportive care able restore near-normal neurological status within months. This is unique terms involvement which rare pediatric population. A possibility inflammation-related arteriopathy secondary infection should be considered workup stroke. Anti-inflammatory measures control cytokine storm along will ensure good outcome.

Childhood posterior circulation arterial ischemic stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Limited data exist on childhood posterior circulation arterial ischemic stroke (PCAIS). We describe clinical and radiological features of childhood PCAIS to determine whether there are differences in infarct topography, vascular abnormalities, risk factors, and stroke subtypes when compared to adults. METHODS Children with radiologically confirmed PCAIS were prospective...
متن کاملCerebrovascular arteriopathy (arteriosclerosis) and ischemic childhood stroke.
The aim of this report is to describe the intracranial cerebrovascular abnormalities and clinical status of 8 children who had familial lipoprotein disorders and evidence of thromboembolic cerebrovascular disease. Six of the 8 children had low levels of plasma high density lipoprotein cholesterol, two had high triglyceride levels, and all came from kindreds characterized by familial lipoprotein...
متن کاملNonprogressive Unilateral Intracranial Arteriopathy in Children with Arterial Ischemic Stroke
The nonprogressive unilateral intracranial arteriopathy known as transient (focal) cerebral arteriopathy is not a well-recognized arteriopathy among practitioners of Korea and Japan, although it cannot be easily differentiated from early moyamoya disease. This review summarizes the nomenclature, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, clinico-radiological features, and management of nonprogress...
متن کاملEndothelial Repair in Childhood Arterial Ischaemic Stroke with Cerebral Arteriopathy
BACKGROUND We have previously shown that recurrent arterial ischaemic stroke (AIS) in children with cerebral arteriopathy is associated with increased circulating endothelial cells and endothelial microparticles, consistent with ongoing endothelial injury. To date, however, little is known about endothelial repair responses in childhood AIS. We examined the relationship between the number and f...
